I was in Advance tonight getting some oil and noticed that Mobil 1 had a 0W30 Racing oil. I have been using Rotella 15w40 in my 305 since we always had extra quarts from doing and oil change on some trucks.  I had read that Rotella, Delvac, and another oil had the best protection for flat tappet cams. What would the advantage/disadvantage of the 0W30 oil be for a street/strip motor?

I am wondering the same thing.  I used to run Mobile 1 0w40...but just because. lol  I didn't really know why.  I have also seen Valvoline Racing Oil at Autozone.  No 5w30, or 10w40...all it said was 60.  Another one said 50, but both were labeled racing oils.  What separates them from, say Mobile 1 5w30, which is what I run in the Camaro?

I cant remember right off top my head but it says not to use that type oil on cars that are still running emissions equipment.  Mainly the cats. Something about the way it burns off causes the cats to clog prematurely if I remember.

"Racing" labeled oils have a higher zinc and phosphorus (zddp) levels than typical conventional and synthetic oils. The higher phosphorus level is said to poison/kill cats over a period of time therefor not for use in '76 and up vehicles equipped with cats. The EPA allows these higher zddp leveled oils to be sold over the counter for use on older flat tappet cam vehicles but they can only be sold wearing the "racing oil" badge.

I don't trust the EPA for shit and they'll tell you anything to "green" and have found no PROOF to the phosphorus killing cats thing.

So would it be a wise move to switch from Mobile 1 5w30 synthetic to Valvoline 60 racing oil in the Camaro?  What's the difference between Valvoline 60 and Valvoline 50 racing oils?

No problem Ken. I hate just linking stuff but I saw no reason to re-type a good article. :)
